This course is designed to provide an overview of wound assessment and the management for a range of common wounds. It is suitable for health care providers including nurses, midwives and nursing students. It may be of particular interest to community, primary care, practice and aged care nurses.

• Overview of wound assessment and management
• Role of intrinsic and extrinsic factors in wound healing

   -   chronic: arterial/venous ulcers, pressure injuries (PI)
   -   dermatitis: incontinence associated (IAD), intertriginous (ID)
•  Wound management
   -   dressing selection
   -   wound debridement
   -   correct methodology for taking a wound swab
• Vacuum-assisted closure dressings
   -   powered and non-powered devices
• Pressure injury prevention and management
   -   staging, interventions and documentation
• Equipment demonstration
• Documentation
   -   assessment tools for use in the clinical setting
• Interactive case studies and appropriate treatment strategies
